That’s A Good Question
by Peggy Haymes, Pinnacle Associate
“That’s a good question.”
As a coach there’s always something magical in that moment when a client responds to my question with this statement. It tells me that instead of responding and answering automatically, they are giving themselves space to reflect. What new possibilities may be present? How might they think about something or do something in a new way?
Good coaching helps us untangle the knots, the issues we’ve wrestled with time and again with no resolution or forward movement. Good coaching helps us move from intention to plan, from “I really should,” to “This is how I’m going to be doing this.”
In her new book, Strong Ground, Brené Brown makes a strong case for coaching.
“I’ve had a coach for years, and I can’t imagine my personal or professional life without one. Leaders are the only high performing professionals who are expected to do their work without coaches.” *
She goes on to reference a 2009 study by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) that found, “individuals who have received coaching report improvements of up to 80% in areas ranging from self confidence and interpersonal skills to job performance and management effectiveness.” *
But isn’t leading in ministry different from leading in business?
Absolutely.
That’s why Pinnacle offers trained coaches who are also ministers. We understand ministry life and work. Many of our coaches are also ICF certified.
On the other side of Advent, a good question to ask yourself is “How might 2026 be different?” A Pinnacle coach can not only help you explore that question but also create a plan and accountability for getting there. You can find one HERE or you can reach out to us to help you get matched with the right person.
