Finding Holy Ground in Mayberry
Pinnacle Associate Ronald “Dee” Vaughan grew up watching and loving The Andy Griffith Show.
Raised in Upstate South Carolina, he felt right at home with the small-town setting and the very human characters featured on the show. As Dee pursued his calling to pastoral ministry, he occasionally used Mayberry moments as sermon and teaching illustrations. The feedback he received revealed that many people resonate with those stories and the life lessons they offer. Dee has taken that intersection of faith and comedy and turned it into a series of books he calls, The Gospel According to Andy. Dee has just completed the second volume in that series, drawing Christian life lessons from each episode of Season 3 of The Andy Griffith Show. In this second volume, the reader meets Opie’s seemingly imaginary friend, Mr. McBeevee, and considers the connection between what we believe and who we believe. A man in a great hurry has his car break down outside Mayberry and discovers the joy of slowing down. The Darling family comes down from the mountains to Mayberry for the first time and shows us the need to help people find a place to belong. And bumbling Barney Fife buys his first car and offers us a master class in how not to make a decision. Both volumes of The Gospel According to Andy are available from Amazon, Weaver’s Department Store, and The Andy Griffith Museum.
