Launching Missional Sermon-Based Small Groups: A New Pinnacle Leadership Initiative
by Doug Cushing, Pinnacle Associate
Are you one of those pastors who has faithfully waited and hoped for the fresh winds of the Holy Spirit to blow across our nation and bring renewal to the Church? And now, as you lead your congregation through the uncharted waters of a post-pandemic world, are you wondering if this is a Kairos-moment; a time when the conditions are right to experiment with creative, fresh expressions of the church?
We at Pinnacle Leadership have listened to pastors who long for a different, more robust way of doing and being church. Yet, they feel constrained by congregations resistant to change and reticent to experiment with innovative ways of being church.
We have also come to realize that it’s not only pastors who yearn for a new, Spirit-infused way of being church to the world. Many of the faithful who sit in the pews, fill the choir lofts, sing in the praise bands and lead Bible studies long for the same thing. We at Pinnacle hear a chorus of voices throughout the Church ready for change.
Here’s some good news. That longing is not just limited to the people who faithfully worship every Sunday. Our risen Lord is at work within people who have left the church as well. Could it be that many of those folks we refer to as un-churched or de-churched are not anti-church but anti-church-of-their-past? Could it be that deep in their souls they, too, long to be part of a community of God’s people who seek to follow in the way of Jesus vigorously and authentically?
Pastors who lead our churches; faithful disciples who fill our churches and seekers on the margins of our churches are all yearning for a Church eager to bear witness to the coming reign of God and hungry to follow in Jesus’ Kingdom ways. And the disruptions and chaos caused by the pandemic are catalyzing churches and leaders into action.
Pinnacle Leadership is announcing the launching of a new initiative: Missional Sermon-Based Small Groups.
Missional Sermon-Based Small Groups is an innovative way of forming small groups that integrates the weekly Sunday sermon and worship experience into a small group gathering that studies scripture together, prays together, fellowships together and joins Jesus on mission in the neighborhood.
If you’d like to learn more about this new Pinnacle initiative led by Pinnacle Associate, Doug Cushing, a formal announcement will be released later this month. Additionally, you’ll find more information about a introductory webinar Launching Missional Sermon-Based Small Groups that Doug will lead in mid-June. A new book will also be available this month at the release date.
